Hi, I’m Kendra Johnson, a journalist, actor and creative seeking truth through empathy.
As a freelance arts, entertainment & lifestyle journalist, my work has been published in the Oklahoma Gazette and I hold previous experience from my time at the Countywide & Sun and The Lincoln County News, where I received the Oklahoma Press Association‘s Better Newspaper Contest First Place Business Story – Division 7 award.
In 2020, I interned in public relations with Love For Our Elders, where I co-coordinated a PR campaign earning coverage from regional tv news stations and news publications across the United States.
I received my B.A. in Theatre with College Honors, Summa Cum Laude, from Oklahoma Baptist University. While at OBU, I explored news writing through arts journalism during my four years on The Bison student newspaper staff, which led to an internship and then a part-time staff writer position with The Lincoln County News during my final semester.
I value continuing education, and so I’m currently studying for my Google Digital Marketing & E-commerce Professional Certificate. I’m especially excited to be learning about content management, social media marketing, and search engine optimization (SEO) through this certificate program.
My background in theatre has shaped my approach to my work. In my acting, I seek to express the reality of the human condition through empathy. The medium is fiction, but the substance is truth.
As a professional journalist and public relations creative, the medium is facts, yet practicing empathetic listening—removing my own preconceived judgments and opinions—is just as important.
Further examples of my work can be found at the Oklahoma Gazette, Countywide & Sun, The Bison and The Lincoln County News.
My journalism and public relations resume.
